Deirdre Toh is currently a second-year PhD student at the University of California, Irvine. Before coming to UCI, she trained formally as a music teacher at the National Institute of Education, Singapore and went on to teach at the Secondary school level for a number of years. She has taught the Music Elective Programme, a subject offered only in selected schools in Singapore. Deirdre received her BMus from Royal Holloway, University of London and MA in Musicology from Cardiff University. Her studies in the United Kingdom were funded by a teaching scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Education, Singapore.
Deirdre's research interests include the philosophy of music, the aesthetics of listening and issues of embodiment, with a particular focus on German music in the long nineteenth century.
